What classic hand tool is used for easing the door liner clips out of the 73-79 year door with out busting any clips ? Should it not be some thing with a V notch ?
They do. Lisle door panel tool. I have #35260. It works pretty good. Search for door panel tool on Oreily's or Rock Auto. Several types to choose from.
Pretty sure there the wire clips . 1975 year . Probably nothing like the pop outs ..... Although those newer ones are interesting if I wreck the old ones
You can use the OEM metal clip or the plastic push pins on any 73-79 door panel. You can source repop metal clips from most vendors. Once the door panel is off, remember to lube your window track and regulator. And you can Dremel notch (2 places) behind and no worries they will be covered by the arm rest. The 2 notches let the door panel fit tighter to the door. The door handle L bracket 2 bolt heads stick out and against the door panel that is the reason to notch. Also JB weld or 2 part epoxy reinforce the areas the pin slip into.
I have saved some mangled door panels over the years.
The notches and a metal over lay to help the broken tab that fits under the finger cup.
Loose finger cup screws an result in this, also using the door panel finger cup as a climbing point.
Metal over lay reinforcement.
I made another one that even wraps around the L/H edge. JB weld them to the door panel.

Or I think these are metal also. https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/tru...cups-black-met https://www.lmctruck.com/1973-79-for...handle-cup-set
Some are worth the work to save. You are NOT buying no repop of these or the stainless trim.
Especially when they come with a matching seat.
Or the stainless trim.
The green ones I was using only as a pattern for the metal overlay. Yes those green panels bottom half were trashed, I cut off the bottom to make mailing the top part (with stainless trim) to a FTE member easier. Along with some other parts.
As they say practice makes perfect . They look good finished . So I just looked into my project more and I have a nice passenger panel and a not so nice driver door panel . Mostly damaged under the missing arm pad .
That is the easy part to over haul, it is all hidden under the arm rest. Do you need a arm rest? PM me. You also need a door latch handle, yours is broken and it has been flipped around as a trick to be able to still open the door.
For older plastic panels make sure vehicle is warm and panel is warm, and the V tool. The original wire clips had the foam pad to seal the holes from water drips. There is also a seal piece under the handle behind the panel to stop drafts. They seemed to have a short life expectancy originally.
