Hi! I was driving to work this morning and is was as cold as Pejeebies! When I got there I went to exit the vehicle and the Flippen door handle broke off in my hand so I have to now roll down the window and use the outside handle to access my door. I have back doors as well. My questions:
Can I use the handle from the back door on the front door?
Is there an easy way to access the the area I need other than taking the door all apart?
If I door have to take the door apart will I need to buy clips or anything?
Finaly, If I have to take the door apart how do I go about it?
Thank You
IIRC you can replace the door handle without removing the door panel. You need to pry the handle out a bit to get to it. Might be a torks head screw. The one from the rear door on mine looks the same.
Thanks Jim! All that holds it on is a 5/16 bolt. I used a small skinny wrench to get the broken one off and the back one off and bolted it back on and WHALA! If you hadn't told anything I would've had the whole door apart, Thanks again!
I'm on my third door handle!!!! I guess I'm opening it wrong and they break Go figure. I did figure out the Ford brand will last longer than the one from Napa.
I've had the same problem. The door panel comes off real easy and those plastic clips are unnessasary. The screws do all the work. You need to spray down the mechinism with wd40 and you wont lose another one. But, if you're determined to never have this happen again Auto Zone has metal handles.
Yes, I have noticed that also. After I fixed the door handle I went to open the door (from the inside) and it did not open (I noticed this has happened before). So I sprayed some Invisilube (WD-40 type stuff) in the door handle mechenism and the latch mechenism in the door jam. I excersized it a few times from the outside and now it works fine.
I logged on this morning to ask the very same question as my handle broke last night!
Now I should be able to fix it quick and without taking the panel off, which was my original plan.
Coincidence? I think not!
Thanks, guys for answering my questions before I even asked!

Man didn't that make you mad when that happened, LOL, I was cussing up a storm at zero dark 30 half asleep.
The fix is easy BUTT! you will need a small and skinny 5/16 wrench, I actually used a Craftsman midget combination wrench you will see what I mean when you start. Have fun!
Mine broke last night when I went back to the high school I work at to chaperon a basketball game. Pulled right off in my hand and I sat there with my mouth open thing WTF!?!?! Didn't get out of the game until 10 pm so nothing local was open last night.
Popped one on this afternoon. Was off work for dr. appt anyway so checked Advance Auto and they only had a RH one. It was 5 bucks or so, so I went to the dealer and paid 12 for an OEM one. As long as the OEM handle lasts twice as long as aftermarket, I'll have gotten my $ worth.
I just didn't feel like wasting my day driving around to different stores.
I used 1/4 drive craftsman ratchet with a 3" extension and the 5/16" socket to get it loose, then a nutdriver to get it the rest of the way out.
You are right! It is a tight squeeze into there, but it can be done in 5 minutes or less.
I am glad I didn't dive into it and take the panel off.
