99 250 sd, have headlights, brake and turn signals lights, radio works fine, instrument turn lights , check engine, seat belt light works however number 8 fuse underhood blows instantly when put in. Doesnt matter if headlamp switch is off or on or truck for that matter. Trailer harness good, unplugged the headlight switch and put a fuse in and fuse remains Intact.. leaning towards headlight switch and not the common tan wire based on if it was the tan wire even without the switch plugged in it would be shorting and blow the fuse.. what do you electrical guys think??
That's what my line of thinking is too, all the threads u had been reading led to wire rubbing etc and no radio but I figured the circuit board on went in the switch the way it was acting differently and just wanted to bounce that thought. I have a switch I'll be putting in here in a little bit and I'll keep and update
Well forgot to update this.. the switch was not the issue and neither was the wiring to the switch.. I as a hail Mary unplugged the factory trailer harness install at the plug to the factory wire harness running from the back of the bed all the way to the front.. and vola' fuse doesn't blow, parking and dash lights work again and it's all back to normal.. ill be replacing the factory install trailer harness when it gets warmer out
The trailer wiring is a genuine ford plug and play.. all wiring from plug of harness to plug for the trailer were good, no rubbing, insulation intact etc and showed no signs of issues so it wasn't a thought in my mind it could be bad.. like I said it was a hail Mary to unplug it
