My heater core is leaking. 79 f100 custom 300, 3sp 2wd short bed. Napa says I have 2 options standard heat and high output. They are different sizes. I have not pulled mine yet to see, as I have been busy with my kids. Napa can only get high output as the standard is sold out nation wide. My question is are they interchangeable. Like if my truck was a standard will a high output fit?

I don't think they're interchangeable. My truck has high output heat. A long time ago, I changed the heater core and could only find a standard size core. It was smaller than my old one but fit. However, most of the forced air went around the heater core. There was almost no heat.

I think you want to source a heater core for a 1973 Mustang, or something like that. Number Dummy said that the truck High Output Heater is really just a Mustang heater box assembly - but I forget the exact year Mustang. And it's pretty safe to assume that the '71 and '72 Mustangs would be the same as well.
I have seen guys cut out the plastic piece that shortens the slot for the heater core. This allows the high output core to fit. My 76 F250 came with the high output heater and has it noted on the dash bezel.

My old one was still good, so I reinstalled it. Only reason I wanted to replace it, was because I had the box out anyway. But I did find a correct new manufacture one. Cannot remember where I bought it.
