Heater core

Does anyone know how many diffrent heater cores fit a 1978 Super Camper Special with a 460 ?
I looked at 5 diffrent heater cores today and none of them are the ones I needed.
2 were out of 79's 2 out of a 76 and one newer 88 I think.
None were even close to the same as mine.

So, when I go into napa and tell them I want a High Output heater core (HO heater motor???)...for a '76 F150 4x4...they will know what I am talking about?

The reason I ask...is that now-a-days...they have to look everything up on the screen...and if it does not show...then you are pretty much SOL.

Thanks,
biz

Only request a high output core replacement if you have a high output core to start with. You cannot fit a high output core into a regular heater box unless you were to hack it up and build a new support in there. The high output core is larger than the regular core, 7 3/4"x6" as compared to 6"x6". You can measure your old core or take it in with you to be sure. High output cores were used in all Super and Crew cabs. I believe they also used them in some regular cabs though it wasn't common. I believe it may have been an add-on feature.

Btw, Napa should only have 3 cores listed in their book, high output is specially labeled as such.

Isn't that the truth. If they don't list it then it does not exist either.

The NAPA stores around here use SPI rads and heaters, you can go to their site and get the part #.

According to what I found...at AutoZone (napa's website stinks...JMO)...the heater or blower motor (part # PM206) is the same. I checked for both '76 F150 and F250 4x4's with 390FE's.

For a '79 F150 4x4 400 the part #PM350 is listed. But NO HO listed...

So...it looks like all the heater blower motors are the same...and no HO blower motor exists. The HO heater core is just more capacity.

If I am incorrect...please let me know.

That is correct. I pulled up part numbers for the Supercab blower and regular cab blower, both the same. High output heaters just blow hotter air, not more volume of it.
