Looking for info on transmission swap on a 1992 f150 4x4 4.9 with the 5sp mazda tranny, would like to upgrade to a zf5. I know the new transmission will need to be from a small block truck, but will my current transfer case bolt up or will I need to change it as well? also understand that I will need the crossmember from the zf truck as well. TIA for any info or direction anyone can give. car-part list the following options as replacements not sure of the difference
MT, 5 speed, ZF manufactured, 4x4, ID E9TA-TA
MT, 5 speed, ZF manufactured, 4x4, ID E9TA-TB
MT, 5 speed, ZF manufactured, 4x4, ID F2TA-PA
Actually iirc it's other way around, the Mazda transmission is very long while the ZF is a tall but fairly short beast.
Also yes on the hydraulics, master can be reused but the slave will need changing. The line will need some creative reshaping with a heat gun too as far as I remember.
The slave cylinder is the same between the Mazda and ZF, and I would imagine the line is the same too (the clutch is in the same place on both transmissions). Ford changed the hydraulics beginning on '93 models, but the master and slave are both different than the '92 - as long as master/slave are from the same model year you'll be fine.
I attached the latest part number chart from ZF before they removed it from their website. It shows all the various transmission part numbers you can look for used.

Oh that's right, completely forgot the small-block ZFs use the internal slave! Yeah the hydro line should fit just fine then, I was thinking of the big-block and diesel transmissions that have an external slave when I first mentioned the line possibly not fitting quite right.
