Okay I have fished and fished and fished for info on replacing the pinion seals, races and bearings on an OBS Dana 60 and can’t find quite enough to be confident, so would someone mind throwing me a fish?!
I have a 1995 Dana 60 out of a f350 that I am rebuilding, I have everything, not welded, removed except the pinion! When I try to spin the yolk it binds (has a bearing growl/grind as I force it) and then starts to turn. So being I am replacing all the seals, bearings, races and the hubs on the axle I want to get the pinion taken care of now too.
So to get right down to it, will I be dealing with a crush sleeve or just shims or both?
I assume I will need a shim kit as sometimes the same shims don’t work with new bearings/races?
On the rest of the axle I have used Dana Spicer products and plan to do the pinion the same.
Doing a quick search, looks like for most years, Dana didn't use a crush sleeve in their D60s. They started in 98 or so. You may not have or need one then.
