I HAVE A TICK?

I have a ’91 F150 with a 5.0 in it. It started a tick, So I pulled the valve covers and intake manifold off. I noticed that one rocker arm was very loose and had a collapsed/stuck lifter. I replaced it. I also notices that a couple of the other rocker arms with very very slightly loose. Meaning you could hardly move them. I did not replace those lifters. All the other rockers were extremely tight. I put it back together and it still ticks. My question is… with these hydraulic lifters do you adjust them? It is not an exhaust leak or a spun bearing either. Thanks, Jon.

Are you sure the lifter is collapsed?
How did the lobe on the camshaft look?

The lifter was definitely collaped.

Here are a new one and the bad one.

No adjustment.
How are the push rods, did you check for straightness, or bent pushrods?
Did you use lots of assembly lube?
Did you oil prime before starting engine?
Did you follow proper break in procedure for hydraulic flat tappet lifters?

Yes sir. I am going to now change out all the lifters and see it it corrects the Tick.

light a match and stick it on the ticks butt. it will back right out. or check the camshaft to see if a lobe is worn out.
