So right now i have my intake off and the valve covers off. I lossened off the rocker arm nut and checked the hight of my spring to make sure none of my valves were off. But now i don't really know how to tighten the rocker arms back up. My school teacher say that we should tighten them up just hand tight and then put the intake back on and adjust them while it is running. Do i have to adjust them and tightem down while it is running. The truck is a 88 f 150 5.0. The intake goes over top of the valve covers and it looks like a big mess. I thought about going and buying a old set of valve covers and cutting the top out to save on the mess. So any ideas on how to tighten up my hydolic lifters on my truck would be nice.
Hydraulic lifters do not have any adjustments and the pedestal rockers on these motors don't either, so the correct procedure is to torque the rockers to spec(17-23 ft/lbs) and and then finsh assembling the motor.
Check with roller rocker manufacturer for instructions.
Set hydraulic lifters about a half-turndown past zero lash, this point is determined by holding the pushrod between two fingers while you adjust the lash. When you can no longer turn the pushrod easily, you are at zero lash, now adjust the rocker a further ¼ to ½ turn.
Or get your instructions from some unknown on the internet.
well i just thought i would ask because my teacher is a little crazy. He dosn't really know how to do it but i guess maybe this time he dose. This cam is a power max 2021 (363112) crane cam.
Those World heads have stud mount rockers which are adjustable so yeah you will need to set the valve lash correctly. That will be impossible to do when the intake is on so you're gonna have to take a stab at it, finish assembling the motor and start it up, and if it's noisy shut it down and remove the upper inatake and valve covers again and reset the lash.
