I had 3/8’s male pipe plugs and this set up worked like a charm! Picked up what was basically a long nut meant for all-thread, and put the back end of a 3/8’s socket on the plug and it came right out. 4 dollars at Lowes for a 2 pack versus a 50 dollar pipe plug socket kit. Could have been happier.

All the cups are removed and currently have half of my bores are cleaned. I was super impressed with RiffRaff’s tool. This made it the easiest part of the entire project so far. I used the penny trick to keep out the shavings.

Planning on cleaning the rest of the bores after work today and then using loctite SF 7649 to clean the new SS cups and inside of the bores. I know it’s not required now but I already have it, and I don’t think the extra precaution will hurt. Thanks Everyone!

This tool made the removal process very simple

Bores right before I pulled the sleeves

Agreed. Just did injector cups in October and the RiffRaff tool is where it’s at! Nice work. Did you find any cracked cups?

I did not, I did find pieces of an O ring inside one of the cups from my number 5 injector. Might explain why shed smoke and idle like garbage it warmed up.

I didn’t have any fuel in coolant issues so I wasn’t expecting any cracks. Just wanted to go ahead and do them since I was already swapping injectors.

Now with the SS cups, I’ll probably run ELC after a good flush. Unless someone on here would recommend otherwise.

Good work so far and this has been a very informative thread.

Nothing wrong with ELC and I have been happy with the dose if Rotella ELC I put in 8+ years ago.

For anyone that decides to use Loctite 7649 as a cleaner for prep, it will accelerate the curing of the 620 retaining compound. According to the graph on the technical data sheet for 620, it will begin to cure around 8 minutes versus around 5 hours without.

What is everyone’s thoughts about putting the injectors in right after each cup gets installed?
would this help the curing by ensuring downward force?

or should I set in the cups, then let them cure before installing the injectors?

sorry for all of the posts in this thread

I installed my injectors immediately after installing my cups. Figured a torqued down injector would help seat the cup. Ymmv and you’re not posting too much or asking too many questions this is a BIG job and you’re doing a good job getting it sorted.

Super cool to have this forum and all its experienced members to lean on!

That is a really good idea. When I read it, I thought "why didn't I do that or think of that" for when I removed the coolant plugs.

Thanks for adding the picture too.

Stainless cups went in nicely, I opted out of using the 7649 as a cleaner due to the accelerated cure time, I wanted to have sufficient time to get everything installed without rushing. I used quite a bit of retaining compound on each cup to ensure I would have enough for a good seal. I struggled to put them straight in the hole without having some compound rub off at the top of the bore (especially the rear passenger ones by the heater box.)

205/30% injectors are installed and just waiting the 12 hour wait. Will report back once when it’s running again.
Thanks Everyone for all the advice and help!

I like to use the Alliant bore brush to clean up the excess Loctite after installing the cups.

I wrapped a piece of blue rag around the brush and wiped them off like that. It seemed to work well except for if I got any in that oil galley right above the top end of the cup in the bore. For that I had to use a pick to push the corner of a rag in there to wipe it up.
