Hey folks! New to the forum and (of course!) have an issue. I've searched and haven't found quite this issue so I'll throw it out there and see what sticks. I had my truck (2002 F350 7.3 screw) die suddenly on the highway about 3 weeks ago. Coasted over to side. Replaced classic CPS (had one in glovebox) and no joy. Pulled ICP plug off and it started right up - with check engine light on. Got her home and replaced ICP (from NAPA), checked harness (all good), and it fired right up. Runs great, shifts better, better gas mileage (had been going down for awhile and it bounced right back up!) all good. Also found I had a bad glow plug relay and replaced it. BUT. At start up I have a check engine light on for about 30 seconds to a minute. Engine starts, idles fine, and drives just fine. Right when the check engine light goes out, the engine will stutter a half second and then run fine again. Once the check engine light goes out it never comes back on until I shut off and restart. Very consistent. I have (just bought!) a MX+ reader (love it) and just pulled codes. Had a U1950, U1262, P1280, and P0603. Cleared codes. Started engine. Still had a U1950. Turned off engine to check codes and had the U1950, U1262, and P1280 - no check engine light on. OK, 0603 going away is probably because I've had battery disconnected several times. Also, I'm fairly sure I have a bad VSM (door ajar on, no auto door locks in truck or on key fob, etc). So..... What's up?? Is the answer as simple as "go get an OEM ICP"? Yeah, I tried to cheap out (but still $100) and get the NAPA one. It has a 3 year warranty so I'm sure I can pull it and get my money back. Any thoughts on those U codes?
I can’t speak to the other codes, but I had P1280 from a suspected counterfeit Motorcraft ICP sensor. I learned the hard way that there is no warranty unless buying from a dealer, so I picked up a genuine sensor from my local parts counter.
Thx for the responses! Yep, it's chipped. TS set to 70 hp boost. Never threw a code before the ICP incident. ICP isn't a motorcraft so I'm suspect that it is the cause but strange that it only throws a check engine at start up. I guess I could just ignore it because the truck is running great but I am curious why I'm getting that check engine just at start up.
