Locking hub question

So this is the style of locking hub that was originally on my truck and I’d like to put it back to factory I have one of these but the other one was like the photo below and I can’t find a whole set of these I can only find the in ring the splines onto the axle nos the outer ring seems to be impossible to find what is the difference between these two hubs and why does one seem more common than the other? My truck is a 1978 f150 by the way

There were two open face Spicer hub styles. I'm not sure when the changes occurred. there was also a standard hub which you need and a big hub that won't work on your rig.

Ford, GM , Dodge and Jeep all used the same Spicer hubs for a period, so you're not limited to Ford for parts. Call Bronco Graveyard they have a lot of these. I just bought a bunch of parts for my K10 hubs and they were very reasonable.

There are internal and external style hubs. That is an internal type you have. I have the same set up on my blue truck.

So you need a new #12? Pretty sure this is it.

Send a PM to Mike https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/member.php?u=508587 I had him track this one down for me. I got it from a Ford dealership....
Or...https://www.ebay.com/itm/313707438621
Or a great source for parts. https://torqueking.com/?cmp_id=17657...waAnfgEALw_wcB

It would be the internal open face on a 1/2 ton or 78-79 3/4 ton without a 60. . but there are 2 gear sets for that hub you can't mix one design with the other. the 2nd variation does seem to be pretty rare though I've never encountered it.

Yes Dana 44 set up, and the other one (I have not posted a pic of) is what I call a "compete assembly style". Less moving separate parts. It is a large lock in out assembly that fits inside the hub as one piece. Much like the Warn style.

Here is a link to them with pics. https://shop.broncograveyard.com/D44...uctinfo/22198/

The below info is from mikeo0o0o0 when he helped me locate the parts. A big thanks again Mike.

According to the parts catalog, there are five different axles and parts lists.
It shows a 3800 lb capacity w/ free running hubs uses parts list 30.5Q
same without free running hubs uses parts list 30.5P
4500 lb capacity, 3.54 ratio w/ free running hubs uses parts list 30.5S
same without free running hubs uses parts list 30.5R
and finally 4500 lb capacity w/ 4.10 ratio uses parts list 30.5AA
I figure I can discount the two without free running hubs
The parts list for these axles (except the 30.5AA) is in section 30.5 page 12 of the text section of the parts catalog.
I have a strong suspicion you have the 3800 lb axle with free running hubs (parts list 30.5Q)
The two part numbers you're looking for are C4TZ-1A052-A and C4TZ-1A055-A.
