I have a 2005 6.0 Eddie Bower edition excursion. It has been setting and only gets driven about once a month, I also have an SCT tuner for the truck. The last time it was driven was Dec 14th for about 400 miles and performed great. It has been sitting since, went to sell it yesterday and it was hard to shift out of park, it delays going into park and Reverse, and it a delayed shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to third. I checked the steering column and everything is tight for shifting. I also went ahead and did a full flush on the transmission and changed the filter to see if that would correct the problem, it did not. I have had varying opinions on this, but a couple of people have mentioned an accumulator spring or a servo retention spring would be the first thing they would change. Is this a simple fix, or should I just take it in to a shop?
Thanks
What filter did you change? This transmission has two filters, did you change both of them? The one in the pan is good for the life of the trans, the one in the cooler lines near the radiator needs to be changed regularly.
The first step in diagnosing this is to read the codes. Forscan is a great way to do it. You could also pay a good independent shop or a Ford dealer to read them. The places that read codes free CANNOT read the codes that you need.
I think we can safely eliminate accumulator springs and servo retention springs as being the problem since there are no servos or accumulators in this transmission.
I did not know of the cooler filter, I will change that tomorrow, I am getting a code of P0603 (keep alive memory) my batteries went dead due to a bad altenator, replaced that already. I also tested my solenoids as far as ohms are concerned and they seem good. Thanks
