Alright, I have a problem that I cannot find the answer to. I have searched, but run out of ways to ask.
It is a 2003 Excursion with V10, 4WD. When I start up and shift to reverse, the gear selector shows it moving, but the truck will not move. It just sits there and revs up. I have to shift back to park and then to reverse again, then you can feel the transmission dropping into reverse.
It doesn't do this all the time. There is no pattern to it, just whenever the transmission feels like messing with me. Any ideas?
Does the shift handle have a lot of play? I've seen this happen when the shift tube gets loose from the steering column.
There are two bolts that hold the shift tube to the column. They are near the floor. Lay on the floor under the column looking up. There are two Torx head bolts, unless one or both fell out. If they are loose or missing that's your problem.
