I installed a new dual diaphragm booster from Rock auto about 5-6 years ago I believe and now it is leaking and stiff on pedal. I can hear it and brakes are not as good now. 1979 with cruise. Everyone seems to not have availability any longer. rebuilt it or do without or something. Does anyone know of a source in stock or a core I can send off and/or rebuild myself? I like the brakes fine so I really have no desire/need to convert to hydroboost since I am sure that will be mentioned. To my knowledge (Bill will be first to explain 20+ booster/mc/pedal combos for 1979 alone!! THanks Bill) a 1979 f350 2wd is a dual diaphragm booster. 1978 has linkage, 1979 has rod. Cruise control has little flat switch boss on rod. The cruise control may be the least important aspect here. Hopefully this is enough information for help.
I was able to swap in a 2005 F150 booster into my ‘79 F350 4x4. The rod needed to be bent just a little but length was good. I also had to aug out the stock firewall bracket holes to fit the booster but the MC side matched the stock MC bolts. It also took a spacer to be put in the MC to fit for the booster to MC rod.
this change did take some work but the brakes are better than they were before and now I have a booster that’s actually replaceable if it dies.
A-1 Cardone 50-3311 - Google Search ..... what I used in my F-150 brake upgrade, with larger Thunderbird caliper pistons too. It was listed for F-350, but I feel sure it will work with a F-250.
I had my 1978 F350 dual diaphragm rebuilt at Cardone. I ordered the service through Rock Auto. I sent my booster out the day after Christmas
and received it back on Friday Jan 14.. So probably about a two week turnaround. Very pleased with this service. Cost was about $115. The do photograph
your booster and send you back the exact one you send in.
