My 92 E 150 5 Liter engine has a AOD 14 bolt pan and its shot, it will shift only to second and stay there, and sometimes it will make a roar sound on starting from a stop. It has shifting problems for years ,hard shifts. Anyway don't want to spin thousand of dollars on a new transmission, so may take a chance on a trans from a salvage yard. So wondering if I can put a C6 trans in place of the AOD, have been told the C6 is a better trans. Also should I look for a newer van or pickup at the salvage yard ?
Now I have never pulled a automatic trans, need to know how hard this is to do, I have pulled manual trans, which wasn't that hard, but an automatic is bigger and don't know if you can use a couple of floor jacks to take it out and re install ? Thanks f1butcher
You could go to a C6, but there is a lot more to it than just swapping transmissions. You would need another driveshaft, kickdown linkage, shifter linkage, vacuum lines etc. You would be way ahead having your trans rebuilt. If you pull it, you should be able to get it overhauled for $500.
Read the sticky at the top of the main page about adjusting the TV cable. That could have been the cause of your problems to begin with.
Pulling an auto trans is no more difficult than pulling a standard. If you can borrow or rent a transmission jack your life will be much easier especially putting it back in.
