Broken spider gears again?
Luckily I have keys. With the shop to myself, no phones, I managed to get the pumpkin out, find the problem which was a broken spider gear, and the roll pin for the pinion shaft had sheared with the shaft walking out 3/8". Luckily I had found a used carrier to which I swapped my ring gear. Cleaned all the shiny stuff out of my pumpkin, set the backlash, checked my pattern, and put it all together with a set of shoes to boot by closing time. Locked the shop and drove it home. The diff is quiet and smooth. But the rear brakes are dragging now. At first, I adjusted them pretty snug, then backed them off a bit, still dragging. Pulled the drums and could see where the edge of the shoe's backing was rubbing on the drum. Ground the shoes for clearance and adjusted the brakes slightly loose. Now they are still dragging. I imagine one of the cables is sticking, going to have a look today.
Oh, and I know that if you get the adjusters on the wrong sides that they will unadjust themselves. this is not the case.
