I have had OEM batteries go 7 years.. and 3. If you live somewhere real cold.. (like Maine) it would be cheap insurance against a possible miserable event come the depths of winter...

Got a response

Heard back from Deka and it was pretty much what I expected. After explaining the situation and providing the details about my truck I asked the following questions:
Why does the system have to be reset due to a battery change? What is the purpose of "registering" the battery?
Registered how, as type or something else?

The Response:
To reset your computer you will have to contact Ford.
We don't have that information.

This appears to be a warranty thing. I am moving on. I'll get the battery for my truck from some other supplier.

I hope all of you found this as interesting as I did.

Odyssey Extreme AGM or a Northstar AGM ..Install and fo get about it. AGM batteries use Pure virgin Lead not recycled lead. These batteries will weight about 55 lbs. and are some of the best available IMO..

Johnson Controls manufactures about 92% of the batteries sold in the US, they rebrand them for their customers who then sell them as their own.
Yes, there are varying degrees of quality, depending on the battery, but not the labeled 'brand'.
The Odyssey Extreme batteries fall into the 8% not manufactured by Johnson Controls. I'd give those a shot just 'cuz.

From what I've heard from many 6.7 owners, is no.... no 4 year old batteries are prone to fail. They don't live that long. They tend to fail around at the 2- year mark.

Interesting. Mine is a gas that will be four years old next month. I have 18k miles on it. He lives most of his life indoors. I guess I will run it.

Remember the good old days when, after you put a new battery in, you could just shut the hood and move on with your life....?

Some vehicles do indeed need to have their batteries “registered”. I replaced the battery in our 2006 BMW 530xi, but had to take it to the dealer to have it “registered” so that the adaptive charging algorithm would know that it was a new battery.

I replaced the battery in our 2019 F350 6.2:

Adaptive charging....more BS to try and save an ounce of fuel every 1000 miles. All it does is increase cost and complicate things.
