Technically supposed to wait 15 minutes or something like that, but nothing is harmed if you hook it up and go. Things will reset in necessary the next time it’s off for awhile
Nope, just sitting for 8 hours only resets the charge status. The BMS does not reset with this procedure. This is why a forced BMS reset is in the shop manual. This can be done with IDS or Forscan/Forscan Lite. Its a service function and without it the days in service will not be reset and the BMS will under charge the battery and cut accessory power earlier then it should.
One more thing....I had the dealer enable the vehicle's "dark", "police" mode for the lighting system. Will this setting be lost without battery power when the battery is replaced?
When a battery replacement is required,
the battery should only be replaced with
a Ford-recommended replacement battery
that matches the electrical requirements
of your vehicle. After battery replacement,
or in some cases after charging the battery
with the external charger, the Battery
Management System requires eight hours
of vehicle sleep time (key off with doors
closed) to relearn the new battery state of
charge. Prior to relearning the state of
charge, the Battery Management System
may disable electrical features (to protect
the battery) earlier than normal.
