Can anyone recomend a good replacement battery? I have a 2002 F150 extended cab with the 5.4 engine. I put in a stereo system with 2 amps (500 watts total) and some extra backup lights. I think the battery got damaged because it has been dischaged several times while messing around with the stereo.
I had it jump started about 5 times the last few weeks, and this morning the battery was dead. I'm not sure if I can get the battery replaced under warranty, but I want a better battery in any case. I think the original has 550 cranking amps. Is there such a thing as too many canking amps? I don't want to get a better battery that might damage the starter or other electrical components? Any suggestions are appreciated!
A 2002 battery should've been able to handle a few discharges. I would put a light on your system to make sure you don't have a component that is draining your battery 24/7. As far as a good battery goes, all makes have improved a lot and it's pretty tough to go bad with any battery.
I'd reccomend staying with the group 65 battery, most after market batterys run at about 850CCA and 1000CA's . It's short height and long length and width make it one of the toughest lead acid battery designs out there. IMO Ford sure got a solid battery put into their vehicles.
Yesterday, at Sam's Club I saw a Nascar Battery Group 65 (Exide) for 48 bucks, and it had a 2 year free replacement. I was thinking of replacing mine, but I'm going to wait till mid-late October to replace mine, just before the big freeze comes.

I am a huge believer in all powerful battery god Diehard. In my experiance they live up to their name. Everytime I by a vehicle the first thing I do is rip out the door buzzer, the second is replace the battery with a Diehard.
Walmart has and MAXX battery with a 9yr warranty(3 yr free replacement) that has 1000 cca. It is only 48 bucks and is made by Exide, the leader in batteries.

PS, I would check for a current drain before replacing the battery.
Also, charge the battery, then have it tested at AutoZone or somewhere to verify it is bad before oyu replace it. And no you cant have too much CCAmps.
