Been fixing up a 99 F350, PSD auto truck. It's had an issue with not locking up in overdrive. Previous owner said trans was replaced recently (mileage wise, been sitting a few years), they were gearing up for a job that never took off so they didn't need the truck anymore. ATF was a little burnt so I did a full service with Mercon V.
Trans shifts fine, even goes into OD and seems to lock up, but then will start flashing OD light and start acting erratic. Does shift a little hard from 1-2 and 2-3 though.
Forscan gives me code 0743: TCC circuit indicated the solenoid as ON (low voltage) when requested OFF (high voltage)
I pulled the solenoid pack plug off the trans and cleaned it. There was a trace of ATF in it.
I checked the TCC wire (Violet-Yellow) for continuity from the firewall to the trans and it checks out.
I also did a temporary TC lockup switch and that worked, so I would think the torque converter is ok.
Also got the brake lights all operational, which I read can throw things off.
Where should I go next? Is there a way to test the TCC before changing it?
You check the wire to the solenoid for continuity to ground. I don't have a diagram to know if the wire is Violet-Yellow.
i'm using a fluke 27 multimeter. I'm not great with this stuff so bear with me.
checking for continuity I just get a little beep.
switching to resistance check I get approximately 10ohms
with the harness unplugged from the trans I get no reading.
everywhere I read had the VT-YE wire as signal wire for TCC. And it matched the pinout location I found on a ford diagram.
To verify I grounded that wire out while in drive and at a stop and it stalled the engine.
