I recently purchased a used 1998 E-350 box truck with a PS and 4R100 auto trans.
I developed a shutter after it shifted into overdrive, with light throttle and a slight load (hill). When the shutter starts if I turn the over drive off it stops. At slower speeds it does it after it warms up right before it should kick down a gear.
It's been to the shop under warranty twice. First for eleven days and they put a new converter in. Then for 16 days and they put a new TCCS (torque converter control solanoid) in and Ford factory trans fluid. Picked it up tonight and the longer I drove it the worst it would get. About 30 miles home, picked it up in Denver and drove to about 8700 ft altitude in the foothills. Biggest problem is I tow my racecar with it and leave for the Runoffs in Ohio in 3 weeks and don't want any problems.
Hi...I've been having the same problem on my 99 powerstroke 4x4....torque converter shutter...I've got 52 K miles been running dextron III mercon....the guys at DTT said to run Mercon V in the stock trans/converters but thet run Dex III in there trannys because the run very high pressures ....so I changed it and also added some additive that my local trans shop recommended it supposedy modifies cheep DEX II and III into mercon V so far it seemed to fix it....It was shuttering in the 3rd and 4th gear lockup...also added a performance tuner thats got some trans programming built in and that definightly!!!!! made it shift firmer and go into lock up fast....no mushy slow lock up...

I used two bottles because I have the mag hytec deep pan..holds an extra 8 quarts but one is usually normal....
I wonder if I have the same type of problem. When I have a load in, about 3000 lbs camper, it vibrates at around 1880 RPM but in any gear. I will try to turn off the overide to see if it makes any differences.
My truck really vibrate when it pull hard, it does it also as i go from a stop and step on gaz, when it passes the 1800 RPM, it does it's shaking then as it goes higher, pass 2000 RPM, it does not vibrate anymore.
What do you mean by shutter, do you mean a vibration.
