Hello everyone, I have the factory 4x4 running gear except engine for a 1961 F100 Flairside longbed. The engine and bellhousing would need to come from the conversion truck. I have been watching the market in my area for a suitable truck to convert to vintage 4wd. The major parts for said upgrade:
T98
D44 frontend
D24 transfer case
9” Rearend
drivelines x3
perches, levers, etc
My question is do these parts simply bolt into 1961-66 trucks with minimal modifications? Do they also bolt into 1958-60 with only modifications for the transfer case mount to the frame?
Thanks in advance for any insight into my dilemma!
I don't know but you clearly need another project.
Right, but these parts can make another truck vintage 4x4 even if its not factory. Was hoping to find a nice truck to upgrade without breaking the bank. Maybe a ‘57 or ‘58 would be fun to create...

This is only from memory but I think the engine/transmission mountings were similar, if not the same from 1957 until the advent of the Twin I-Beam front suspension (1957-1964?). If you had a truck of that vintage with engine and bellhousing that your T98 will bolt to, you should be able to build a 4WD truck.
Something else comes to mind... but not 100% positive. I believe the front shock mounts and orientation on the '59 and '60 factory 4x4 truck was different from the '61 through '65 4x4 trucks. Can any body confirm?

That is correct. I have a couple slickside 4x4’s ( one a 250 4x4 and another f100 4x4 with 8 lug axles.) the shocks are setup more upright than kicked over like the fridges
