4X4 Conversion question?

Hello,
I need a question answered on converting a 95 F350 LB CC 2wd Power stroketo a 4x4. Are the frames the same so all that really needs to be done is springs, axle, transfer case and related wiring for dash lights etc...with factory parts or is this going to be a major undertaking with possible frame change or something to that extent? Thanks for your help

the best advise i can give you is if you want a 4x4 talk to a ford sales man or check the classifieds.

I know this probably does sound crazy, but does anyone know if it can be done? This is my dream truck, but 4x4 would be nice to get out of the sand every now and then, also to have low range to help back up hills slower would be nice. I'm capable of about everthing automotive so chalanges aren't the issue, I just want the stock factory 4x4 parts if possible.

If this was an old beater truck, I might be able to say, go for it. But it is not. I am not doubting your mechanical capabilities. The concept is very obtainable, but really, how much more is a 4x4 version of the same truck gonna cost, if you were to sell what you have now, and bought one that was born that way? I am pretty sure you could seel yours for decent dough, and pick up another that is already 4 wheel drive, for less than all of the time and money you are gonna spend trying to convert the one you have now. You could probably do it before the weekend is over. To do a conversion clean, and the right way, will take much time, and an equal amount of money.
Just my opinion.

You need a donor truck. Its do-able, I'm pretty sure the frames are the same, but you'd need everything from the donor truck to make it work or you'll be forever part hunting.

You will still be part hunting for a while. When I converted mine, it seemed like it wasn't done for a while because little things still needed fixed.

It would be quicker and easier to put your body on a good donor 4x4 chassis.

yes it will be a major under taking.... dont think its gonna be n afternoon project or even a weekend project. i'd say for someone with limited mech skills it would take a couple of weeks to get evertyhing in and twaked right. you gotta have 4x4 tailshaft on the tranny (which means you either need a whole new tranny from a 4x4 or just the tailshaft removed, cant remember which), t-case of your choice (bw1356 prolly), front driveshaft, and front drive axle. if you get a shifter t-case there's not much elec wiring to do b/c the case shifts physically instead of electrically.

your best bet is to find a donor truck with a torn up motor or wrecked rear end and then just rob it of all the necessary parts

I'm doing one as we speak....You NEED a donor truck, there is no other way to get all the needed parts.....measure the frame widths...HD's..250's...350's...with the SAME TRANSMISSION that works, the output shafts ARE different from 2wd to 4wd.....driveshaft lengths..... the gear ratio's have to be the same and if you bought a front diff. you could spend lots of cash gearing it the same as your rear.....something hit or rotted out.
If it is your daily driver you should take a weekend and switch your body over.
If you have time...!!!....I'm cleaning, replacing, and painting all parts to hang under my chassis 'cause this is my "DREAM TRUCK"....(E-350 Van actually)

Your could get old school and run a divorced 205, but then again, by the time you get 3 driveshafts, the $$ saved on the trans conversion would probably be eaten up with driveshaft costs.

If I had it to do over again, I would have ran a divorced 205 because I made my own driveshafts.

After checking E-Bay (Ford/F-350) I changed my post.

Anything is possible with time and money, I think selling yours and buying a 4x4 is a better option.

120073831226
1994 4x4 truck like yours for only $3600 - one owner

I would go for this before I spent $2000+ converting yours. The front Dana 60 axle, by itself, is usually $1000 at most junkyards and if you find one cheaper, shipping it is $300+.

Buy the truck and keep yours if the motor is good, as a spare. Though I would hope any 7.3L with only 140kmiles had at least another 150K to go.
