This is just what I think and I am not positive what all but you will need the transfer case, maybe the transmission. Front and rear driveshafts and the whole front axle and all the suspension its not an easy conversion and there I s a lot of fabrication and modification involved.
If it were me I would just by a 4x4 truck.
Someone with a little more info will chime in later I am sure.
it would be easier to mount the 74's body onto an already 4x4 bronco. I've seen it done but can't recall the specifics.
Basically it'll be cheaper to just sell your '74 and buy a 4x4. It's seriously too much work to be worth it. you'd have to be an uber junkyard diver to even do slightly better than breaking even!
I'm trying to remember what I saw tossed onto a bronco frame... I know I saw some freak put like a 67 mustang on one but there was something else I saw on one... I thought it was a pickup.
well i were a littlebit wrong wou can put the cab of a truck on a bronco and then have a very shout flat bed. but you still have to make new cab mounts.
I would forget about the bronco 2. The 80s F-250 will work, with some fabrication work. You basically would be placing the 74 cab on the 80s chassis. If you do a search, I am sure there are some posts on this process.
wtf.....this is some of the worst advice Ive ever read.....not to be an *** or anything but honestly.
First of all mounting a 74 body on a 80+ frame is more work then you need to do. The 80+ front end wont work on your truck without a bunch of work either, its TTB not solid axle. Your 74s engine x-member doesnt have the proper provisions to mount the axle pivots to, nor is it easy to do. You could use the 80s model F250 for the tranny and t-case provided the trans matched the engine you have, or had a removeable bellhousing.
To do this the simplest way would be to get an axle, radius arms, steering linkage and trac bar from a 73-79 F150 and it will all bolt in under your truck. I think you can even use your 2wd radius arm brackets IIRC. Once you have that all in find a tranny, t-case and tranny x-member that will all work on your truck together in harmony (lol). You need to also go find a front and rear driveshaft from a 4wd truck with the same wheelbase as yours. The only thing left to do I didnt mention is 73-79 trucks (all the ones Ive owned anyways) have a removeable top on the transmission tunnel in the cab. The 4wd ones are taller than the 2wd ones, get one off a 4wd, it will have the provision for the t-case shifter. Your carpet/vinyl wont fit very nicely anymore once thats installed either.
sorry pud, but your advice isnt that good either, the 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive frames are completely different, and nothing will just bolt on, the best advice is to find a 4x4 frame or a complete 4x4
twoX gave an option of the two trucks, of the two, the 80 f-250 can be done. Also, even the solid front axle is not a bolt on to a 2wd frame, unless... you want to lift it something like 6+ inches to clear the x-member for the 2wd twin-I setup, or do a lot of cutting and welding to put the 4x4 x-member in the 2wd frame. Really the best swap is to get a 73-79 donor chassis, and bolt the body to the chassis.
