Welcome to FTE!

E37 = E350 with cutaway cab

A = 460 4V

H = Lorain Assembly Plant

DH0450 = 1979 numerical series

158 = 158 inch wheelbase

M = White

E375 = E350 cutaway cab 11,000 lbs GVWR

AB = cutaway cab, standard

G = Ford 3 speed automatic (C6)

36 = Dana (Spicer) model 70 rear axle, 7,400 lbs capacity, 3.73 ratio

No front axle code. No explanation in MPC copy. It should have a code.

11000 = 11,000 lbs GVWR

1979 = model year

71 = Los Angeles District code--

No special order, so why no front axle code is unknown.

VIN doesn't tell you much. There should be a sticker with more info on the driver door or door jamb. EDIT FINISHED DECODE

Oil type

1979 E350 460 V8
Any suggestions on the oil to use. I’ve heard 10w 30 for Diesel engines but mine is not diesel. Also can I just replace the o ring on the oil filter adapter? I’m leaking oil from where the filter connects to the adapter

10w-40 or 15w-40 made for older engines should work. I'd go with the 10 or 15 40 or even 50 as 460s in vans run HOT.

When you change filters it should give you a new o-ring on the filter. Make sure there;s not an old one or part of an old one stuck to the adapter.

If the adapter itself is leaking, you'll have to take that apart to replace whatever's a problem there.

went with the 15w40 and yes the adapter was the problem. I changed out the seals and no leaks. Thanks for the help.
One more question, the belt around the alternator busted and when putting on a new belt I noticed the alternator is tilted in a little. Can I just bend the adjuster arm or maybe place a couple washers on one side of the bolt to make it a little more straight with the ( I think camshaft pulley). Sorry for the crude drawing. And it’s not as bad as the drawing looks

Straighten it out best you can. Washers, a section of pipe, bend the bracket.... It must run true or your belts won't last at all.
