Ok, just, offically this started as a "snake oil" ask, amd because of the results, ive started the find it/fix it thread, and im going keep the pic and questions over there. 👍
I appreciate the help, and the redirect, from everyone. And hey, id have wasted more than the cost of the glowplugs it looks like i need, so thats a double win.
I used to work as a mechanic at a new car dealership. They do like to see you push the "services". Some I am a believer in, some I was never sold, or thought the interval was bogus. The dirty secret that is never advertised is each of those chemical cans from BG has a plastic "chip" in it, so you cash it in with the BG rep for a cash spiff. So not only was there timecard pay involved, but also cash in the pocket. But the age old adage...you won't pour many wrenches out of a can.
Those little cans/bottles were one of the main reasons I quit my job at a Chevy dealership after 9 years.
One service writer pushed them so hard that I told her to have one of the other techs do her dirty work and I didn't want any repair orders she wrote up. She would also have the customer (or customer's extended warranty company) on the phone before the vehicle - usually a pickup with IFS - even came in the shop for the initial concern selling ball joints, tie rod ends, pitman/idler arms, and front axle seals. You know, the "gravy work". It was a $$$ per repair order game for her and she was the service manager's pet because of it.
I think we started with BG chemicals in the late 90's and their specialized flush machines then on to Wynn's....and their machines. Then we got some other company after that.
I'm not saying that fluid maintenance isn't necessary as I'm a maintenance freak. I strongly believe that fluids wear and get contaminated - there's no question. However, "rebuild-in-a-can" or "flush" products are not going to fix anything, especially long-term.
