My mechanic..... and his lead mechanic.... told me over the summer, when i asked about the bg on the wall, that (A) it works, and then (B) i should run the injector stuff through my april 98 build engine.....
i have replaced one injector, lead mechanic did it, actually... as far as i am aware. The other 7 sticks are originals, with 265k on them.
so, the claim is it will smooth things out, clean out the nozzles, basically, extend the life of my injectors indefinately, as far as function goes.
(obviously, if the orings wear out, cups leak, etc, thats not going to be saved by this.)
I noticed after they put the new injector in, she ran very cold, didnt start easy, without the heater plugged in. For, about 6 months. Now starts are like they used to be, overall. Things have been fine, generally, but this truck doesny like the cold. Once we got below 55 at night, i had to start plugging in the heater.
i am considering trying a lighter oil, to see if that makes starting easier, but im wondering if the BG would help, too, goimg into winter... which in oklahoma is rarely a serious event, but still, im not a fan of 8 glow cycles, and 4 cranking events, followed by a cloud of smoke, And a hearty high ho, cough cough cough.... 😁
Opinions are valued, certainly, experiences with this product in this instance are pointedly saught out. Waste of money? Why havent i already done it? Amd everything inbetween
Looks like a snake oil to me. But I've never tried it, or really needed to try it to fire up below 55 here NE Oklahoma. Anti gel on the other hand, yeah. Additives for our oil no.

This is fuel side. And not an additive. They told me they have a tool/machine to put it in, via the fuel rails, if i understood correctly. The product then sits for the prescribed time, then you burn it out on startup.
How are your glow plugs and glow plug solenoid? I live near Kansas city. I dont plug mine in overnight unless i see temps below the 20s. Last winter when we were in the -teens i plugged my an in at work like 2or 3 times. My injectors in my dd van are worn but with a good glow plug system im getting by.

im honestly not sure. I need to see if they are actually doing anything at this point, because yeah..... cool weather upsets this truck, forget cold....
An easy check is to "jump" the glow plug solenoid. Use a screwdriver to connect the 2 terminals on the solenoid. Do this for 15-20 seconds with the key on. Then jump in the truck quickly and fire it up. If this helps it start easier then you know your solenoid is bad. If you replace the solenoid buy a good one. No parts store off brand. Buy a stancor, trombetta or motorcraft.
Dont bother doing anything w the air intake heater. You are just connecting the two large terminals on the glow plug relay.
alright. Looks simple enough. high likelyhood im about to have to crack the valve covers, myself, finally..... 100% honesty, ive avoided it, because, 1.... a touch intimidated, and 2..... im concerned i may start my very own whirlpool of mods, fixes, and upgrades under there.... 😬

265K on stock injectors? Don't even bother with "cleaning" the injectors. My money says that you've got less than 0.002" of armature clearance and no amount of snake oil is going to fix it. Sure, make sure your glow plugs are functional and the system is operating properly. But don't throw away money on products that are only in existence to pad incomes of everyone in the pyramid....except yours.
Snake oil won't remanufacture your injectors. They have performed well. Next step is replacement.

All of these fellas are right!
We can help you test the GPR (glow plug relay) and glow plugs without going under the valve covers if that is what you would like to do.
Your truck should be able to start well below 0° if the glow plug system is up to the task. Worn injectors will exacerbate the glow plug system failing, but you can usually get around that unless they are gone.

See... this is how it goes. @T-wood Your gonna get me to pop those covers for inoccent little glowplugs, and matt @Bitterroot Diesel is ready with shiny new sticks to breath new life into the old girl, and im sure matt, or clay at riffraff will sell me new cups, so i can run long life anti freeze, and then ill fall into one of @Sous turbo threads...... (again) and, and, and, etc
