Ford Electrical Plug Disconnector Tool

Has any one seen a tool made that disconnects the various plugs in the wiring harnesses ? It's an eternal challenge to get the plugs separated without breaking especially if they have two ramps and two leaves one on each side and the plug is a few years old.

I believe if you had a tool, the plug latches would still break. The plastic gets old and brittle. I am assuming you haven't pulled the cluster yet? It's totally made of plastic and it gets brittle and can break all apart also. You are supposed to be driving a new Ford truck, not this old one. It's only made to last 10 years at the most.

You'll want a Lisle 13120:

These are available from the usual online sources. I've got one and it works great.

If you should break the lock, don't panic. In most cases, the connector halves will stay together just fine without it. Think about how tough it can be to undo the connector even after you've released the lock. If still concerned, you can use a small tyrap as insurance to hold the connector together.

FWIW, here's a picture of the zip tie holding the connector on a coil pack. That zip tie has been there since about 2008. That connector now has 299.700 miles on it. Picture was taken May 2012.

I'm surprised there's no blood dripping from that nice little knife edge:

If you'd be so kind as to leave the hood open, I'll swing by and trim that tyrap nice and square.

FWIW, here's a nice neatly-trimmed tyrap securing the TPS connector on my car. It's been like that for about 8 years or so, with zero issues:

It's a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT. there is very little space between that coil and the frame rail. It's not a normal place anyone can fit their hand. Plugs have been replaced a couple of times since the photo. No problems with getting cut.

In fact, I leave the connectors on the coils when I change the plugs.
