I know we all know the horror stories with changing the original plugs (I might do a write up on mine later) but I am working on my 6th plug and something happened I was not expecting: the screw / hex head on the actual spark plug broke off of the shaft and is in one piece and the rest of the plug is the still in the plug bore/hole. So, I still have a complete plug which is operational and not damaged other than the part now to get the plug out is busted off.
So, how does one go about getting the rest of the plug out?
There is a special tool to pull the rest of the plug that was seized to the head out. Make sure all the porcelain comes out so,you don't mess up the motor
You are going to have to break the plug...then you have to buy a Lisle 65600 tool on Amazon for $58.00..and use it to extract the plug out....suck's i know broke most of mine getting them out .....
I have the Lisle tool and used it on two plugs so far (and it worked like a dream!) but this one is just about a complete plug which is 2nd from the front of the passenger side. I started with the drivers side first as it was easier access.
Well crap, I need to find a way to break the plug.....
I know you have to break plug but anything to try and loosen carbon holding tip is a good thing .
I still put a very small amount of anti seize on new plug threads .
Lisle makes a tool for pulling the porcelain out of the plug (Included in the 65700 kit), shoudl be able to go after it with an extractor after the porcelain is out of the way.
As I have it outlined, the plug came out in 3 (yes THREE) pieces and it was the toughest one of them all BUT the tool made light work of it.
So, out of 6 plugs pulled (so far) - only three broke and the first two broke like the one I am showing to the right.
I have 2 more to go but I need to pull a bunch of stuff out of the way and will need some time.
On a side note: the six I have swapped so far shows an incredible difference not only in the total lack of hesitation, but the acceleration and drive is a lot smoother. Should have done this a long time ago.
