Hi, could anyone tell me which mark indicates full on my 352's dipstick? When I change the oil and put in 6 quarts, the mark is at the single divit on top. But this also seems like full should be the double divits below it? Thanks all
It has been a while since I have changed oil in a FE, but my recall was 5 qts not 6.
John
You're probably right, the oil level came down and settled at the two dots after a bit of driving. Still can't figure why there's a divit with what looks like the letter "E" in it...
Owned my 66 F100 with a 352V8 for 32 years and it's always required 6 quarts to reach the full mark on the dipstick. Not sure why but it has and that's what I've run with. Here's a pic of the dipstick from my pickup and it doesn't have that extra divit on it. Just a guess but the top divit on yours looks like it was added by a previous owner and not factory.

Yours looks like his to me and what I recall them looking like from a while back.
I run six quarts of valvoline VR-1 in the 20w/50 and a wix 51515 filter. The Valvoline has the good gooshy stuff to protect my cam. I add approximately zero quarts between changes.

Yeah, tomorrow’s the day for me, too. I just bought exactly what you did this afternoon, from O’ Reilly’s, same oil, even the same Wix filter. It’s funny to go there on a Saturday morning, watching all the grey-hairs dawdle in , wearing their mechanics’ coveralls, tooling-up for their big weekend project : the oil change. After five or six hours, time for a sandwich, a beer, and a nap. Big day. I now count myself among that lot.

I usually squeeze mine in at the end of the day, when I have an open hoist. I take the time to look at everything underneath. This time I replaced two universal joints and adjusted the brakes. I try to stay out of O'Reilly's, They will deliver if I call them though.

We have exactly one auto parts store in our town. I was actually surprised I could get a Wix filter there. Next closest parts store is at least a thirty-minute drive. I wouldn’t trade small-town life for anything, though.
