I guess the one good thing about it is you are not dealing with a chunk of metal, however it does not look that discolored........did you replace it recently?
If you drop the oil, I would suggest a strainer so you can see if caught it, instead of fishing around for it in a pan

no the change isn't due yet but not far off I think a bit over 3000 miles on it now. It always looks decent even when I do change it. Ive been gone for a week and was checking the oil before firing it up and this is what I found. Should I pull the oil? I know it isn't metal but I don't want to damage the engine. I was gonna strain it.

I would just drop the oil for peace of mind, you might get it out the drain. Just be sure it's on a perfectly level surface to increase the odds of it hitting the drain, and be sure the oil is good and hot so it flows faster.

so i should start the truck? That doesn't increase the odds of it getting sucked in? Right now as it sits it hasnt been started in over a week.
True, but it's probably run that way already? How cold is it where you are at?
Not sure how it would get past the pick up screen.......but it's your call
I'm in florida so its in the 90s most days. And ya I figured the screen would grab it. I think I'm just gonna drain it without running since its been sitting most oil should be in the sump as possible. You said level ground though should I raise the front end so it rushes towards the drain?
Not a bad idea, I can't recall right now how the drain is situated, but I would do what I could to get the most action towards the drain hole. It's pretty much centered so not sure how much good would be to jack it up unless you have a 2wd and it sits that much lower.
You could take the manning part and see if it floats. It probably does. So it would be staying up top riding the waves away from the screen.
If it's buoyant it may want to stay in the pan wherever it beaches. You could try to blind lasso it with a wire, so see if you can get access to a borescope.

I dont think we have one at work. I could try the wire thing if it doesn't come out with the oil I think ill fool with it for a bit.

It certainly isn't going to get through the oil pickup screen so it isn't going to hurt anything. I would eventually drop the pan and fish it out if it doesn't come out the drain.

Nope, you do need to raise it a tad but not pull it. There are how to vids, but don't jump the shark until you have tried some of the methods the guys here suggested.
