This is a continuation of a previous post, ill start from the beginning.
I bought a car a while ago. When i bought the car it didnt have an oil dipstick so i didnt run it much till i could get a dipstick. I got the dipstick about last week and it showed no oil at all. It came out dry as a bone. In my previous post i asked what i should do because i wasnt sure if it was a bad dipstick or not, i didnt even know that was possible.
I took the advice given, and that was to change the oil to be sure of the amount in there, and then check the dipstick. Well the dipstick still comes out bone dry with 5qts in there. So now what? New dipstick?
Yeah i was thinking new dipstick. I can get a dipstick and the tube thing, all chrome for about $5 from summitt. Ill give that a go unless someone has a better idea.
get the one from summit, then do an oil change with the proper amount of oil, as rec by Pontiac, insert dipstick and mark where it is, that's full for you...
Sounds like maybe you got the wrong replacement dipstick for this engine, OR, someone has replaced the dip stick tube with the wrong one, of maybe the oil pan was changed with one with a larger sump!!!!!
Why not check with your favorite GM parts department for the correct P/N for the dipstick & check it against the number on the replacement stick & see if they match.
If they don't match, then you likely have the wrong stick.
If the P/N's do match, then something else has changed, as I suggested, maybe the engines oil pan, or dipstick tube, or maybe it doesn't have the engine you believe it has!!!!!
Also, make sure the dipstick tube is inserted into the engine block. Had one once that the mechanic did not insert the tube into the block. The dipstick just hung out in the air. I put 15 Qt. in before I got suspicious.
