I just installed a new ignition cylinder thinking it would fix my problem of when I start my truck it’ll run fine but I let the key go it shuts my radio and all my gauges off. Does anyone know what it could be?
I would change the ignition switch, which is mounted on top of the column, underneath the dash.
1. Take the short cover off around the column that is near the cluster.
2. Important; If you have a automatic, take the small plastic tube with the string off the column. This actuates the PRND21 indicator and is easy to break.
3 Take bolts loose that hold the column to the dash and let the steering wheel drop and down and rest on the seat. You should be able to see the ignition switch on top of the column.
Note there is a rigging procedure, but it is very simple. In fact, the whole replacement is very easy to do. Remove the trim panel at the bottom of the dash, undo the bracket, and the whole column tilts down for access.
If you want to test the switch while still installed, here's an easy method but you'll need to make one slight change:
Because your radio and gauges are acting up, it sounds like a different portion of the switch has failed. In my case, the heater fan was misbehaving. I hooked up the meter between fuses 1 and 9 to confirm the respective portion of the switch had failed. For your situation, test between fuses 1 and 11 instead.
