Ignition problem, maybe?

Just curious if anyone else has experienced these issues. Every once in a while, when I get in my truck, the dome light is on but as soon as I put th e key in the ignition, everything dies. I have no power to anything, no dash lights, no radio, no dome, nothing. If I mess with the key for a bit, power suddenly comes back. The tach and all my gauges flip all the way over and then return to 0 and I can start it. I also noticed I can pull my key out with it turned on. Its only happened a few times and I can't seem to figure it out. Just wonder if my ignition is bad?

Sounds like a safe bet to me Greg. My old 95 I could pull the key out with it running, but never had any problems like you're having.

If the gauges are flipping all the way over and back, then something is obviously reseting the computer. Something is crapping out for sure.

I had the same issue with my 98 OBS. The cylinder was worn out replaced it and good to go.

Was your also doing funky things with power? Also can they re-key the new cylinder to match my key so I don't have to get new locks for my doors?

It did I would have to wiggle the key at times to get it to run. I bet Ed can match it up via you vin #

Edit: As soon as you put the key into the ignition it sends a signal to the PCM. This is why your keys have to be out of the ignition when removing the PCM

They can, though I don't think its particularly cheap.

Sweet!

Also, I suspect it could be the ignition switch itself too. Does all that come with a new tumbler assembly or is it all separate?

Ok thanks.. I'm sure that is my issue. I could swear it looks like someone tried to steal my damn truck too. Ignition is kinda screwed up..

Just an update..

I installed a new ignition switch today and it fixed all the problems
