Does anyone know where I can get a replacement chrome front bumper for a 1966 custom cab? Doesn’t have to be brand new or NOS, can be a cheapy Chinese repop or whatever. Just need something and would like it to be chrome, and hopefully won’t kill me on the shipping. Searched the interwebs all morning and can find plenty of rear bumpers, but no front. Thanks!
LMC lists chrome bumpers for Slicks. At one time they even had some that included integral driving lights, maybe they still do, but there are shortages everywhere now. You are right, I believe, in being suspicious of the quality of today’s re-popped, chrome plated goods, I find them to be mostly crap. If I wanted something to last, I would find a straight original bumper, bite the bullet and have it re-chromed by a reputable shop.
Had heavy duty original bumper on 64 vehicle re-chromed and straightened and very pleased with results. In my state EPA restrictions drove most platters out of business or they now out-source the work. If an original comes up in decent condition in my opinion would be the better route!!.
Due to accident purchased a 'cheap bumpers' on the 65 and it lasted about as long as it takes to cook a 3 min. egg. If decide to go that route suggest one does not stand on it to work on the engine, or other uses; In addition, keep the item polished on a regular basis
I have both and compared them side by side. The repop is junk,it's fairly new and very light weight. If you have some one hit you in the front it will fold like a cheap suit. Go for an original one. There would be more damaged parts then you would have to replace those hard to find oem parts. I put another bumper on my 56 and it looks better than original IMO. Had to slice and dice the brackets but very happy with the results. I did the front and back.

For awhile, LMC was offering a second, better quality (and more expensive) bumper than the bargain basement ones they push, probably closer in quality to the genuine item. Some of these retailers have scaled back their offerings, catering to bottom feeders, both quality and price-wise. I bought a replacement chrome front bumper for my ‘59 from LMC about 15 years ago, I spent the money on the better one and had no complaints. But things do change.
I have an LMC '65/66 bumper and it is not light weight! It's only about 1 year old (maybe 2 time flies when you're having fun). For the cost and ease of delivery, it was a great option for me. The chrome still looks like new.
I picked up a bumper from the wrecking yard
(or whatever they are called in your part of the country) for about $80 a couple years back. Think it was off a 1970 f150, not absolutely correct for a purist, but looks great to me. Same weight, gauge, and chrome quality as the crumpled bumper that my truck arrived here with. 4 bolt holes lined up perfectly with 65 bumper mounts.
Also realised I have no pictures of my truck full front on...Have to remedy that.
