tbear: l can feel your pain brother.
Right now you've got hundreds of choices...
but only one chance to get it right.
Print your favorites, pin them to your shop wall, the best one will keep moving forward.
Red on White is a classic look...but yeah, anything looks good on a white 'blank canvas'.
If you ask me, that Free Wheelin' orange fade decal might even look good on light blue paint. Okay, don't ask.
Remember what the guy on YouTube always says: "Don't worry...it's only paint."
But 440 sixpack is exactly right: Custom paint and wheels are cool, but lots of us are appreciating the classic OEM look, with paint, wheels, interior and under-the-hood accessories, etc.
When I painted my cab roof, l tried to mimic the original factory Tu-Tone appearance as closely as possible.
redroad: On a complete restoration, a wrap would be nice. Or some wild-and-crazy rolling advertising...
But IMHO paint is perfect for most trucks. Although, that matte green wrap is probably easier to care for than matte green paint.
Hey Rich: Looks like it might be the End of the Trail for that beauty.

What, no way that has a lot of good parts still on it. Put some wheels and tires a little gas in the carb and I bet that thing would fire up and drive off that dirt pile that it is being "king" of. Lol
But that lead off photo above ... the SB on Ebay ... is pretty.
Glad to see this. I've been looking for a while and have been buggin Phoenix and a couple others. They all had everything minus the '78 Explorer. LOL, now they do and I need the Supercab set.
This may be drifting off topic, but does anyone make a correct reproduction of the white '73 Explorer stripes? I haven't been able to find any. That's keeping me from having my truck painted. Once the original stripes are gone, well, they're gone. I've been wondering if businesses that do body wraps have the ability to scan the original stripes and replicate them. I need to look into that. But, again, if I could find a correct reproduction stripe kit, I'd be a happy camper!

I recall seeing something on Pheonix Graphix web sight that they could / do anything. Likely they'd use some photos of your truck, but white would be easy. Make some measurements too. There is also Graphic Express does them too, they have some already. I've used their kits before, on Mustangs. Stripes I did on our '08 were done in '13, still look as good now as then. Between the two, I have already picked out some favorites, so going with solid white base color paint, then come Spring I'll "accent" it. I have no doubt about the Phoenix Grafix products, and I know Graphic Express is top notch from experience too. They also do custom colors and reflective colors too.
Any of these that are not reproduced could be easily made by any good vinyl graphics shop. I've had several that installed repop graphics for me say " I could have made this for you " .
it wouldn't be cheaper I'm sure but it can be done.
