Headliner Kit sources....

It's about time to order in an interior kit for my 48 F1. I've looked at the stuff from LeBaron Bonney, and Sacramento Vintage Ford. I like the option of a grey color from Sac, but it does add to the cost. Are there other sources that have equally as decent quality, similar prices, and availability out there that some of you have used?? What kind of installation issues should I be concerned with as well??

Thanks

This is slightly off topic but one of the board members, chassisman, is selling headliners for panel trucks. You can't find these reproduce anywhere, you have to have them custom made. He has one listed on the 'Bay, eBay Motors: Ford Panel Truck Headliner BROWN 1948 49 1950 1951 1952 (item 230322601781 end time Feb-05-09 18:23:53 PST)

If you have a panel truck, I think they might only fit '48-52, check out the auction or contact Mark himself. He has brown and gray.

Check out a company called Rod Doors they have some nice headliners and door pannels that you cover yourself.

HI RG,

There are lots of places that sell those...LMC, C&G, MId Fifties, Sac, etc. I'm not sure if they are manufactured by different people or if they all distrubute the same kits. There are a couple of distributors on e-bay that sell the kits, but I have no experience with quality or installation woes.

You might want to ask "Chuck" at Chucks Trucks his opinion. He gets about a million e-mails a day so it might take him awhile to get back to you, but he will eventually. He does a lot of restorations and would have some good tips on does and don'ts. Here's his link:

Chucks Trucks LLC., Chuck's Trucks, Chucks Trucks

Good luck,
Julie

headliner kits

I have the Rod Doors complete kit, fit is very good, you have to enlarge to rear window opening on 51-52, black plastic(forget what they call it) but can run as is or cover in anything you prefer, note that the kit is pricey but it really works well, Garry

Hey RG,

Thought I'd just add my 2cents on RodDoors. Like Garry, I found the RodDoors products a bit pricey, but probably saved me time and frustration. All my interior panels were supplied by RodDoors. Here's what they look like in my early '50.

Looks great. Will the headliner cover the back of cab and side pannels. If so how far down the back of cab will it cover.

51truck,

Obviously, you can't see it under the fabric (and it's not a great pic) but, there are several ABS plastic pieces that are glued together. The headliner is one piece. It is pre-molded and fits (toward the rear) down about the height of the top of the rear window. On either side of the window, are pieces that fit up to the side panels that again, are molded to the concave curves of the cab. A large flat piece ties things together below the cab window. It takes some patience, a can of ABS glue to piece things together with the special fastener pieces that RodDoors supplies, and an occassional assist from a heat gun to tease the ABS panels into position, but it's fairly easy and looks great in the end. When I was done, I had only one seam that runs horizontally along the top edge of the rear window to each door -- and it is kind of inconspicuous.

It covers around the rear window and down to the floor.

Very nice F1 Ken. Since we are both in the same neck of the woods [I'm in Broken Arrow], maybe I will see it in person some day. Joe

I think you'll like the kit. I've heard from a few folks that have shared concerns about the duo-loc fastners (super velcro stuff) RodDoors uses to fasten the panels, but I've had no real problems. I did find that the duo-loc wasn't real effective in holding the headliner tight to the cab roof (not enough fastening points) but a trim screw into the headliner bracket will fix that. Good luck.

By the way, very nice trucks to all in this thread! And Joe, I too hope we get a chance to meet. I'd like to see your sharp '53 -- I'm over Tahlequah way.
