I read up on the air bag light mishaps on other fourms and so far I haven't heard of anything dealing with the light causing (Or vise versa) the beeping. They are both in the same rythem and it is quite annoying. The light never bothered me, which blinked the day I got it but the beeping started today and it is very annoying. Any idea what may cause this? Thanks, Xain
Where in Oklahoma are you? I'm in Broken Arrow. Most Ford airbag problems are caused by the clockspring in the column. Typically the horn and cruise control will also have issues if that is what is causing you airbag light, but not always. Count the blinks of the airbag light to determine what the code is. I think most of the codes in the 30's deal with an open circuit in the system. There should be a few blinks very quickly followed by a brief pause, then more quick blinks. For example if there are 3 quick blinks then a pause and 2 quick blinks that is a 32. Good luck.
I have a simular problem with my 94 F150 XL. Does your horn work? If not then I think we have the same problem. The problem might be caused by the airbag sliding conector. Its located right behind the air bag. its an easy fix. first get the part from your local Ford dealership. I heard that they cost about $85 (here in Wisconson) . when you have the parts you need, disconect the neg. batt. termanal and let your truck sit for a half hour. This lets the backup power drain. then you remove the 4 nuts off the back of the steering wheel and pull off the air bag. disconect the the wires from the air bag and the steering wheel. remove the round airbag sliding conector and install the new one. Now don't take my directions perfectly. thats what I have come to conclusion on how to do it based on diagrams in my repair manual. It looks to be an easy brainer but I could be wrong. I still have to do it myself.(no spare time) But if you can do it your self then you'll say a few hundred. hope I helped, and good luck.
94 F150XL, 2wd, lowered 2in., stock as hell.
Silver, I am in Lawton.
My horn still works and my cruise hasn't worked since I owned the truck. Your blinking timing is about right. What would open circuit system mean? The light has been blinking since Ive owned the truck without ever beeping. I never cared about it. The beeping is annoying, and with my work schedual, I dont have time to even go to a Mechanic. Is there hope that the sound will eventually burn out? Or anything to cut or unplug to kill the sound? I couldn't find anything of it in my owners manual or guide.
Thanks for the help,
Xain
99% of the time an open circuit is the clockspring. They wear out after several thousand turns of the wheels and the wires break internally. Is the beeping the same as the key in igntion or lights on chime? If so there might be a short in the airbag system that is backfeeding the chime circuit. If it is different it might be possible that it is an airbag warning chime. I think there is a fuse for the airbag system that you could unplug and see what happens. There usually isn't any info on the airbag in the owner's manual because they don't want you jacking with it. Just for information purposes, all the airbag wiring connectors are bright yellow. I don't recommend messing with them much because that could set off the bag. You can disarm it for inspection by disconnecting the battery for at least half an hour and turning the headlights on. However, working on the airbag without proper reference materials is always risky.
TO EVERYONE WHO HAS THE PROBLEM OF THAT AIRBAG TONE GOING OFF AND YOUR PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG OFF LIGHT SWITCH IS NOT GLOWING THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM THE BULB COMPLETES A CIRCUIT. TO REPLACE THE WHOLE MODULE IT WILL COST YOU $129.00 AT THE DEALERSHIP CAUSE YOU CANT GET IT AT THE PARTS STORE. IF YOU ARE LIKE ME AND PRETTY GOOD WITH ELECTRONICS YOU CAN GET ANY 12VOLT BULB ABOUT THE SAME SIZE AND DESOLDER IT FROM THE CIRCIUT BOARD AND REPLACE THE BULB AS LONG AS IT HAS THE SAME TYPE OF SOLDER LEADS AND ABOUT THE SAME SIZE !!!!!
