Random Beeping

My stepson just purchased a 94' Bronco with the 351. At random it is making a beeping noise, sounds like from under the dash. There are 5 beeps in a row, pause, and then repeats. The tone of the beeping is different from the tone when the door is open and lights are on.

The air bag light is also flashing. I've not yet taken the time to see what code it is flashing.

Other things to note: The previous owner had a Kelsey Energizer installed, which appears to be something to control electric brakes when towing. I pulled out the module; could there be a second component somewhere?

The tail gate is not electrically connected - it was completely missing when the boy purchased the Bronco though he has the innards to build it up. We had just purchased a new shell, when by a miracle, came across an almost rust free, complete functional tailgate at the junk yard. So we have the junk yard tail gate installed temporarily until the new shell gets painted. Would a disconnected tail gate cause beeping?

Not sure what your beeping would be. There is nothing OEM that makes any noise other than the seatbelt/headlight chime module that I am aware of.

The airbag light on indicates and problem in the trigger circuit for the bag itself. Have someone who knows how to deal with this issue do it. The potential to inadvertently deploy the airbag is a serious risk.

Kelsey Energize is a trailer brake controller. If you don't have or use a trailer equipped with electronic brakes,it can be removed and it should be completely self-contained with the exception of the wiring for it. The Bronco wiring harness does have a splice point built in for a trailer brake controller.

The only thing that will not work with the tailgate wiring disconnected is the window glass in it. There are no electronics in the tailgate that pertain to anything but the operation of the window.

I also here this beeping. I have a 2001 super duty. Same thing, 5 slow beeps, pause, repeat. Repeats 5 times. Seems like a code. Seems to come from driver side.

Check with the guys in the Superduty Forum. Bronco production ended in 1996 so few folks here will be able to offer much advice unless they happen to have a SD of their own.

I think I have it figured out.

The 5 beeps signal a problem with the air bag.

The horn and cruise control are not working either. All of this points to a bad clock spring. Working on find a replacement at the junk yard.

Thanks all!

Has the airbag light been flashing a code? The two times I replaced the clock spring I was seeing a 3-2 and the horn and cruise had quit working.

Replaced the click spring today with one from the bone yard and the problem still exists - no horn, air bag light flashing, no cruise. Need to check what the light is actually flashing for a code.

Looking at the schematics, I think my next step will be to trace the wiring to the speed control unit.

The saga of the 5 beeps continues...

The replacement boneyard clock spring was bad. So this past weekend, I was smarter and brought a multimeter to check the clockspring before bringing it home. The boy installed it last night - still 5 beeps, and no horn.

Today I played around more, and I could hear the horn relay clicking. Further investigation showed the horn wires broken off of the horns. I spliced the leads together and now the horn works.

I read some posts that if the light bulb on the dash for the air bag indicator is bad, the airbag module beeps. Can anybody confirm this? I noticed the other night when he was driving that it looks like 3 or 4 bulbs on the panel are burnt out. Looks like a pretty easy change; I'd like to know if it would solve the beeping. The air bag indicator only lights once in a while, and the beeping doesn't occur when the indicator light has been on.

This may not have anything to do with it but want to remind you if the brake light switch on top of the master cylinder has not had the recall replacement there is a slim chance but a real chance it could burn down everything.

I never heard a beep the two times I replaced the clock spring due to 3-2 blink code.

Now I have a 5-1 blink code and no beeps on it either.
