My buddy dropped a dirtbike while unloading it from my truck and it damaged the tailgate step. It ripped off the top trim part that conceals the step when its put away, but it also screwed up the button release. Does anyone have a link to a diagram so I can fix the button? Or can you post pictures of your own tailgate? Something is off with the spring on the left side that activates the actual latch which holds the step closed.
I'm having an issue with the step too. Bought a used 2017 F250 and the step is messed up/not locking in place. The plastic cap is warped and looks like someone jury-rigged it by adding screws. The button is missing a hook. The picture below is what it should look like (found on a video/may not be an F250/350)...that might help you.
My question: Does anyone know where i can get a replacement button and the plastic trim plate that covers the step (has the button hole in it)? Looking for inexpensive; used is fine. Planning on hitting a junkyard this weekend, but not hopeful.
Hmmm i saw that but was focused on the plastic trim and not the button. Saw that for the trim, but was focused on it being for an F150. Wasn't thinking to just swap out just the button as I need the trim too. But I like the idea if nothing else works. I'm going to hit a couple salvage yards in the area to see if I can find one. Plan B: Order this and try the button and keep on the look out for the trim replacement over the step.
Can anyone take a better picture of the button & hook? Not sure how the hook is in there (I grabbed the picture from a video). Is the hook part of the button, or a separate piece?
