I am sorry; I guess I didn't explain myself clearly. I have about a 3 inch gap between the top of my tailgate and the truck (when closed). The new chrome tailgate chains have a top link which is longer and allows this gap to happen. Basically, the gate will not stay closed because of the 3 inch play which the chain allows. I was told to use a seal but the gap is 3 inches and the tailgate is flush at the bottom. Is there any way to shorten the length of the chrome link or reduce the size that is used by the tailgate end? Thanks

Try to mount the chains on from outside of the bed. That may help. That way they wont interfere. OR- is your tailgate bowed (center to front of truck) (not flat ) (across the width ) ?

Do you have a website that shows the chains you bought? Seems odd that one link has a 3" radius that is one big link.
I think what he is trying to say is his tailgate is good everything works closes correctly etc. The chain can not be made short enough to hold the tailgate perfectly vertical. It is partially open because the chain can not have enough slack taken out of it.

I'm wondering if the new chain is made for the post-'50 style gate, "roll-under" style vs. 48-early 50 "roll-over" (i.e., the latch lug is over or under the roll on top of gate ). Or vice versa..
