Pulled the cab off a few weeks back. This weekend painted the frame, installed axle, bushings, pins, master cylinder, bent/flared all my brake lines, and painted some more engine parts/transmission. Once marks hogshead gets here Ill get that painted quick and hopefully can dump the whole power plant into the chassis. Pardon the mess in my garage, I work with what space I have. Happy 4th guys!
i have this crazy goal of having a running/driving truck by September…
Sam, I sorry that I'm late to the party, but these pistons are in backwards. The notch in the top should be toward the front of the engine. The oil hole in the rods should be toward the cam side of the engine. IIRC, I read somewhere years ago that the reason for the notch is that the pin is slightly off center in the piston.

Mark I knew about the rod orientation however did not know about the notch. Did some research today, turns out this was to combat piston slap. As disappointed as I am Ill have to restuff/reorient pistons Im glad someone brought it to my attention. just one more thing to add to the list, better order a new head gasket…
Sam, I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner, at least you didn't have it installed in the truck yet. Since you haven't started the engine, you can probably reuse the head gasket. I have reused V8 gaskets that have been run for a while without any issues. I just sprayed the really well on both sides with Copper Coat gasket sealer. Aluminum spray paint used to be the "go to" head gasket sealer for used gaskets years ago.

Well I got my pistons turned around over a friday night (thanks again for letting me know) then proceeded to dump the whole power pack in the frame. Actually feel like I am making progress now! Getting her ready to fire for the first time, hopefully in the next week. Finishing my starter rebuild cause Im cheap…
received my cab corners and need to get a floor panel then its time to start patching. My goal is to have the cab back on so I can wire/finish interior over winter.
Well I got my spindles back from being honed, new king pins fit great…assembled. I decided to mock up my front brakes as this was causing some concern. Brake drums for late 60s f250s do in fact fit right on 1950 ford f2 hubs, yup crazy. Even better I mocked up my backing plate and It'll have the same engagement. Off to my friends shop to redrill/open up my dana 44 backing plates. For anyone who wants an alternative to discs or stock drums this may be an option with ease of off the shelf parts…oh also started cab patching, this oughta be interesting!
I thought Id wait to make a big post since Ive been busy on the truck this fall! Im about done patching the cab, corners, passenger floor, and roof! They aren’t perfect but Im satisfied with how they turned out. Solid metal now and got rid of the rot. I need to fill in some pinholes yet then I can start playing with rustoleum in the spring.
on the mechanical side I fired off my 226 today - she purrs and has good oil pressure. I ran into some issues yesterday with oil pressure and not building any, thankfully some folks on the fordbarn clued me into priming my oil pump…glad I got that sorted. Here is a video too if anyone is interested
Sam, Great video and body work. Excellent work on getting rid of that hideous nest and buttoning it up like it never happened. You have some serious skills with the sheet metal.
