shifting speeds

Hi all,

I have a '63 F100 4x4 with the original transmission and 292 V8. Near as I can tell these trucks did not come with tachometers, and I've been reviewing threads on options to install one.

I've been shifting simply by engine sound. Am I gonna hurt anything this way? do I need a tach?

You do not need a tach . Are you having any issues shifting?

Hi Eric, thank you. No, I’m not … I guess maybe I’m getting used to the gearing on the truck. I’m in 4th by 30 mph … not used to shifting so quickly. I guess that is normal …?

Sounds completely normal. A 4x4 will have a low gear ratio rear end.
