tach sticky?

Sorry, it seems to be sticking as it climbs up with revs or back down. As the engine speed increases in a kind of linear fashion, the tach sort of steps it's way to a point say 1000, then waits for a bit then jumps to 1500, then waits again and jumps again to maybe 2100?!?!? I don't see it as a linear display like so many I have seen in the past, it seems to be sort of jammed/ jamming. Does the same on the way back down also.
I know the guages were changed or at least altered to allow for our funky and loved by none metric system, wonder if the needle is pressed back on too tight?
