Window cranks grease

Hello my ford f250 when I crank the windows up there a little stiff and act like they need some grease where do I grease the door cranks?

Pull the door panels off, and there is a track (21458) on the bottom of the glass that a plastic wheel/guide slides in. Smear some in there. Then reach in behind where the crank actuates the arm and feel for the teeth on the gear and wipe some there too.

Cycle the window and few times and try to get any spots you may have missed.

You may need to clean the old grease out of the track first.

It is also a good time to replace the felt window seals (21536, 21546) and scrapers (21452, 21456) and the vent window seal (21488) if needed since you will have the interior door panel off. If you decide to do those, just remove the window regulator so you can have eyes on it to clean and lube. Be aware that to do the vent window seal, that the assembly has to be removed from the door. The others can be done (with effort) with the glass and vent window assembly in place, but are much easier with everything removed.

But like the phrase that our bank accounts don't like: "while I'm in there."

Well with that low a mileage is it safe to say the door panels are going to be held on by the OEM metal clips. And those can make it tough to get the panel off without risking breaking the door panel back side clip mount tabs.

I would look into getting a body panel tool kit. https://www.harborfreight.com/search...0panel%20tools

Start by taking the battery connection off so you are not having the dome light on the whole time (and cooking your lens cover). Then take window crank handle off (one phillips screw), and do not lose the plastic washer on the back side. Then the finger cup door pull (2 screws), and then the inside door latch handle (one large head phillips screw and lock washer).

Start to remove the door panel by CAREFULLY prying on the lower corner. I start on the lower rear one, then the lower middle, then front lower corner. Once they are out the door itself, slide the clips to remove from the panel. Then move up to the next ones on each outer middle edge. Followed by the top 3, again start on the corners.

Then yes clean off the old grease (spray carb cleaner works great) off the track. And then relube the track that the roller wheel rides in. And yes spray lube the window regulator. Test operation before you put the panel back on. Sometimes the window glass gets caught in the fwd and rear vertical seals. Caused by dirt or a UV damaged seal that is falling apart. Insp and clean as necessary. They even have glass lube for sticky/tight seals.

Come time to reinstall the panel, you can get the GM Xmas trees from local parts house HELP section, the GM ones are longer and have a bigger head than the Ford ones.

To help the door panel fit tighter you can dermal notch the door panel where it contacts the handle plate hdwr. No worries the padded arm rest and finger cups cover it.

If you have a broken plastic piece under the finger cups, you can make a s/m overlay easy enough. JB weld holds it good.

For those of you that are missing that piece of plastic....improvise, adapt, overcome.

If it has a crack just make the overlay. Even if it is fine, make the overlay to reinforce. This area takes all the door slamming power from your friends. And get some metal finger cups from LMC. https://www.lmctruck.com/1973-79-for...handle-cup-set

Okay thanks for the help lot of good information I will try that hopefully this week sometime your're just saying to be careful because of the low mileage that the tabs could break off?

No I am saying if the truck we are talking about (window crank lube wise) is a 73-79. Then it is old-er (regardless of the mileage) and the plastic can be brittle and the metal OEM door panel tabs can be very persistent, and break the door panel mount tabs, if you just man handle them off there. I hope for the best for you, that is why I suggested the special tools and to be very careful.

Thanks here too! I've had them off a few times but the pictures of clip locations is something I never took before, good review.

Okay thanks I found a standard door pannel popper tool on amazon like a screwdriver but is forked with a bend in it. Would that be good on that truck pannel if so I will order one?

Yes that is a good tool to use. It should have a plastic bead that slides up and down the shaft to use as a fulcrum and to help keep from marring the paint. In a bind, I have used a plastic pancake turner (spatula). (Shhh don't tell my wife)

Yes the metal one with the V and a bend in it is correct one. Be careful with all that prying power, I'd still start on the bottom back lower corner. Good luck.
