Hello all I have a '97 f250 with a MAFed 460 I'm not getting any trouble codes and am new to owning own of these would you guys have any advise for me?
Also when I put it in reverse she idles low then dies but I can start her right back up then she's fine, also when driving around town she will surge to about 1200 RPM then when I hit the brake or put her in neutral she idles normal Idk what the heck is going on. Update, I should add that I added a true dual catless exhaust to her the other day but I was already having idling issues before all that, only thing it didn't do before that is do the surge as mentioned above.
Do a vacuum test on your brake booster...The symptoms you describe suggests you may have a ruptured or cracked/leaky brake booster....Theres also a 1 way check valve at the end of the vacuum line at the booster port too [white thing at booster port] that holds vacuum in so if you pop the line off at that spot and it doesnt produce suction chances are something is bad.
Mine still produced some level of suction but at anything over 15inches of mercury and it produced an internal leak in the diaphragm causing issue similar to yours except I have a 5 speed so my issue was more higher idle related....
So I found my code reader and hooked it up and I had 4 codes! All related to exhaust so I hit clear codes and now the truck runs like a freaking top! I have checked it since and the reader still says "no codes" and its a hit or miss so hopefully I can replace the brake booster and be done I also ordered a couple of the "02 simulators" to install and keep those exhaust codes away.

clearing codes doesnt make the problem go away :O
and by o2 similulator you are refering to the non engine running required o2 not the one that adjusts your AFR right

Well I'm not sure because it gives me a running lean code on bank 1&2 and the 3rd code is a "slow to respond 02 sensor so honestly I'm not sure.
