I have an issue that is giving a well known shop in the area fits trying to figure out. The truck will randomly start having issues at all sorts of RPM ranges, speeds, gear, and so on. It does not throw any codes when it occurs. According to the shop when they monitor the system it acts as if power drops and then returns causing the shuddering. I will drive it and it will be horrible for a bit of time then it will go away and maybe hit once or twice then go away again.
Assume you do normal maintenance, so, when was the last time you changed fuel filters? Are you sure the frame filter cup was screwed on tightly with the o-ring lubed with clean engine oil?
If you mean power drops as in voltage.. You should be able to monitor also with a OBD reader, they show voltage.. You should ask the shop what is loosing power, the whole truck, a certain module; do they mean power as voltage or power as in HP or... This will be the key..
The loss of power is referring to voltage. This issue is not constant. It comes and goes as in on the way to work yesterday it did not do it once. On the way home it was constantly shuttering.
Loose wire or ground somewhere... Try OBD and see if you can spot the voltage drop.. If you can then take meter to fuse box and see if you are loosing all power there or a certain fuse, if its a certain fuse that would be great.. If no fuse loosing power then likely a ground...
I once owned an F-100 (yes, old school) that would sometimes shudder, sometimes quit for a brief moment, sometimes even totally shut down for 10 minutes or so. I tried everything to solve the issue, cables, switches, new generator, new regulator....but the problem persisted. Finally one day my battery was dead, I had a spare in the garage, so I swapped it instead of jumping the dead battery. Turns out that the battery had internal issues that were messing with everything on the truck.
