Dead key fob that got wet
Hey folks...I need some advice as I am stranded a long way from home. I have a 2016 F350 Powerstroke, key start....not the push button on the dash to start like newer models. My key fob took a dunk in salt water and will not remote unlock the truck or start the truck. I was able to get in the truck with the door code. I stick the key in the ignition and turn to the on position. Dash lights come on but I get a start fault error. I do not have access to the other key which is hundreds of miles away. I do have the factory Keycode written in my owners manual. Don't know if that can help in any way.

^^ this, dose it with electrical parts cleaner. Drying it out with rice is all well and good but you need to get the salt out of it.

Walked three miles back to my camper. Flushed out the key fob with bottled water. Let it dry overnight and put in a fresh 2032 battery this morning. Rode my bicycle back to the truck this morning....lot of prayers on the ride!! I knew when the key fob unlocked the door that there was a pretty good chance that it would start. And it did...started right up.

I always carried an extra key on me when I was out with the RV and also a spare set of keys back at the rv along with a key in the center console. Two of the keys were standard 80 bit chip keys without the fob. One can never have too many spare keys.....lol...
Even when not out with the RV, I had the regular set on me and the one spare 80bit key in the console.

I thought there was a fob cradle in the console that even if you put a fob with no battery in the cradle the vehicle would start.

His truck is a 2016 key start, not push button start. 2016 does not have the ability to use Ford Pass as it has Sync2, not Sync3 or Sync4

Think you need Sync 3.4 or Sync 4...also will need the modem that comes with Sync 3.4 or Sync 4
I know on my 2020 Ecosport, has Sync 3.4 and the modem. Can do some over the house WIFI for updates. I can remote start, get tire psi, lock unlock, vehicle location etc. via FordPass. I can remote start with the Ford-Alexia app use the Echo Dot.
