hot wire AC?
hot wire AC?
Geezus, what next? Got the truck running fine, but my AC stopped. Compressor isn't frozen, it's not getting power to the clutch now????? WTH could have messed that up? Jumping the relay from 30 to 87. 30 has 12v, clutch doesn't engage. PITA but I get the connector off the compressor, check it with my power probe and nothing. One pin lights the green light but doesn't show voltage, the other pin does nothing.
Thinking I can run a switched hotwire to the power wire at the compressor, just to get me on the road. Or, pull the fuse box and splice into the wire out of the relay and at the connector on the other end. Am I going to start a fire, burn up my electrical system, or some such stupidity?

Wish I had a Phil's piercing probe or a spare AC compressor pigtail. Still need to confirm I fixed the coolant leak. I pulled the intake hose, cut an inch off that had the old clamp impressions and reinstalled. If it still leaks, I gotta think it's the J-tube, which is major work on this Eseries and pretty much cancels my trip. Did they upgrade the 08s in any way that makes that j-tube better? Can't imagine any reason it would have failed now except for my dumb luck. Well, second throught - maybe I damaged it while I was wrestling that turbo back in the dog house. Seems far-fetched, but anything is possible when you're Bonehead.
I would get the pigtail at the compressor and hot wire it there. That way you take the trucks harness out of the equation to see if the compressor clutch is working of not.
The green test light indicator tells you the ground circuit is working at the pigtail connector. The lack of a red light indicator tells me it is not getting voltage to engage the clutch. Which may not be a problem, if the rest of the system is not telling it to send voltage to the clutch. B
